Godot Development and JLPT N5 (25/03/2024)
There was a bit of progress on CrystalLine, I am trying to get the main character done before moving on to getting the boss working.
I have also spent some time working out how my Japanese Verb/Adjective game would work in Godot. I couldn't have Japanese characters in the scripts as it caused an Unicode parsing error so I had to store the UTF-8 character as a string and use UTF8Encoding to set the text to it in game. It is definitely too ambitious for the amount of interactions I would need to program and have them still be satisfying as part of a gameplay loop to help you learn.
I signed up for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test which I will take in July at a N5 level, the content we are currently studying is around N4-N3 level so as long as I study up enough I should be golden.

CrystalLine (14/12/2023)
I have been working on a game in the Godot engine, the plan is for it to be a pixel art action game where you only fight bosses. Your character switches weapon depending on which row you are standing in, they will have basic attacks, skills, passives, and effects when you switch row. Most of the initial C# code foundation is complete.
I plan to put v0.1 up once I complete the three base weapons and the slime boss behaviour. My experience with pixel art could be better so I am going to make them as well as I can and circle back around to any that I feel aren't up to scratch later.
I think my Japanese verb game might have been too ambitious, once I have done this project I might circle back to it.
Japanese Holiday (03/11/2023)
I have done a write-up of my time in Japan. Planning my next trip to Japan will be easier by looking back at this. Feel free to take a look.

Jobs and Godot (27/10/2023)
For the last year and a half I have had a job at Crealogix but was let go due to cutbacks. I then went to Japan on a tour by G Adventures where I got to apply the Japanese I have been learning. Currently I am looking for a new job in the QA sector.
I am experimenting in the Godot engine as the Unity news that hit recently about the pricing changes makes me think it would be wise to get more familiar with alternatives. In Unity I was making the mechanics for a game where you could drag hiragana onto the screen to form verbs which would have an effect on your character and those around you as a language learning game. I am going to see around transfering my progress over to Godot.
New PC (30/08/2021)
I have a new PC, my previous one I had all the way through university and so I had a lot of messy folders. I have cut back my time on mobile games and am setting up to develop games again.
Wait what day is it? (10/07/2021)
Hello, it has been a while since I updated this website. Most of my time has been used working and I've also still been streaming with Damage Die. Recently I have have been cutting back on gatcha mobile games as they use up way too much time to maintain. I haven't spent any money on any of them but time still means money. I'm hoping to quit Epic Seven and Genshin Impact by the end of July, Dragalia Lost is the only one I will maintain as I am far enough in progression that I don't need to spend much time on it.
My Japanese lessons have still been progressing but I have had a harder time practicing, hopefully my time reorganisation will help make some time for it.
My interest in classic finite games has been reignited and have added a new Reviews page to the website for my opinion on the games I have completed.
I have also edited the Skills section of the website, I plan to edit it further soon as I want to provide a example file for each skill rather than the vague metric that was there.
As for the games I was developing, I have stopped. I plan to start up development again once I have reorganised my time and job.
Experience System (20/08/2020)
Good day it has been a sunny season and the heat has been close to unbearable. Been thinking of adding an experience system to Radius as it a good way of ensuring that the players engage with combat (else the boss will be very difficult).
Most entries in The Legend of Zelda series encourage you to fight by putting the player into locked room scenario, where a door or chest will not unlock till the enemies are defeated. I can use this method to force experience onto the players or teach them about certain game mechanics.
The blog now has pages though they are coded in html rather than using Javascript. Will have to investigate it another time but this will work for now.
Slower Pace and SMTV (21/07/2020)
Hello there currently slacking on game development a bit this last month (and a half) unfortunately, which is in part due to me returning to Old School Runescape. However I have been making noticeable progress in my Japanese and been trying some minor translating.
Back in December I wrote a post only two sentences long because I was too busy to write too much (I think). One of the sentences hoped for something on Shin Megami Tensei V this year and a trailer just dropped. It's coming next year, it should be a blast.
This page is getting a bit cramped so I will be splitting the blog into different pages for my next blog update.
Damage Die (07/06/2020)
Currently working with most of my friends streaming on Twitch on a channel called "Damage Die". Been playing with them for a while now, but thought I would mention on my portfolio blog. I play most often on Wednesday playing games with my friend Max. We are playing through CrossCode at the moment, a Action-RPG set within a MMORPG. Its quite fun with pretty great mini quests and puzzles.

Update and Witcher Recommendation (04/05/2020)
So much for the "update next month" these last two months have been weird due to Covid. I have looked at Woodland and improved map's unit creation, units now can have varying stats from each other. I shouldn't have set a target without looking at the code for what has priority.
Also a recommendation if you want a in depth look at the Witcher series check out Joseph Anderson's newest video at this point in time "The Witcher Critique - The Beginning of a Monster", it's only the first game but he has multiple videos on the way for the other games. A great watch if you have the time!
Current Plans (01/03/2020)
Hello I'm planning on moving development of Radius off my portfolio from here on due to concerns I have on the direction I want to take it. Woodland will be my primary concern from here on. By the first of next month I will implement an unit experience system for the game.
Christmas (21/12/2019)
Merry Christmas. I hope Shin Megami Tensei V is shown next year.
